Classic Wally interior
The Wally Power 55 comes in three versions as far as the accommodation is concerned. The two-cabin version features a full-width master cabin amidships complete with a full width bathroom across the rear end. This is combined with a VIP cabin forward that can be a twin or a double. One of the three-cabin versions has three twin cabins but two of these can be replaced by doubles. Then there is the three-cabin version with two doubles and one single, so you are spoiled for choice. In all of these versions, each cabin has its own bathroom and there is a long narrow crew cabin between the accommodation and the engine compartment. This doubles as a noise baffle.
With all these cabin possibilities you might think there is not much room for a saloon but all versions have the same saloon and gall
ey between the forward and aft cabins. Here there is the galley counter on the port side matched by a dining table and a settee on the starboard side. The galley is also conveniently located to supply service to the cockpit tables that are just behind the helm.
For the interior décor, Wally offers a custom service, so a very individual look can be developed. However, the style is essentially minimalistic, which is in keeping with the Wally design philosophy that focuses on subdued colours and a sharp ambiance.
Test day performance
There was a very lively sea for the test day off Cannes, making perfect conditions for testing this new design. There were no complaints about the performance. With 13 people on board, we did not make the 42-knot top speed, but it was close and even at 38 knots in the tough seas, the 55 was rock-steady and very impressive. That sharp bow seemed to slice through the waves with the minimum of pitching. In bigger waves, speed would need to be adjusted to the conditions. As for manoeuvring in harbour, it was simply brilliant.
This 55 has been developed to fit into the Wally Power range between the 47 and the 64 and this now completes the series. There is no doubt that the experience gained on the other models has been used in the development of the 55 and this shows in the thoroughbred performance. The four engine installation is a new departure for Wally and it works wonderfully well, as does all the other features on this innovative design.
