Hamilton Holds Strong
My first view of the Whitsunday Islands was from the helm of our yacht, the best way to move around these 74 islands lying off the tropical coast of Northeast Australia.
Grouped in what is described as the ‘100 magic miles’ that run parallel to the middle of the Great Barrier Reef, the sheltered and hardly tidal Pacific waters that flow to the Whitsunday Islands are incandescent blue, making for a watersports heaven all year round for tourists and visiting sailors.
Located off Queensland’s coast, roughly 1,100km north of Brisbane, the Whitsundays are on the same southern-hemisphere latitude as Mauritius. Temperatures average 27 degrees.
