Zhuhai Sunbird, the first Chinese yacht builder to IPO and one of the leading native yacht builders in FRP, has taken its first steps into the superyacht market with the recent launch of its 88-foot yacht, which was recently featured at the Hainan Rendez-Vous in Sanya, Hainan.
Sunbird President Li Yue Xian designed this unique lines of the exterior, together with well-known US naval architect Howard Apollonio as the hull consultant. An angular, edge-based outline marks the exterior flow. On the interior, Sunbird have opted for a harshly contrasting black and white theme, which is the dominant theme throughout the yacht. The four-cabin interior layout can be altered. The layout includes an independent corridor for master suite, as well as room for a personal assistant. There is a folding door at the main deck meeting area. Electronic saloon doors, a flybridge massage hottub, hydraulic elevator platform and the most advanced Maretron monitoring system, are all main parts of this new yacht.
With a displacement of 70 tonnes, the 88 has a length overall of 27 metres, a beam of 6.2 metres and is powered by three MAN 1550-horsepower engines. A hydraulic swim platform can be used to launch the tender. Though this is the flagship of the Sunbird line, the company has plans to launch a 95 footer and a 105. For the moment, it’s lucky 88.
