McConaghy's China has developed quite a reputation for building top notch yachts, particularly in the racing field, and the new MC38 will surely get plenty of attention. On a breezy day in Zhuhai, nearby the gambling mecca of Macau, a test team that included a writer from Asia-Pacific Boating, put the new yacht through her paces. Though still in the prototype-testing phase of development, the test boat was already due to be shipped to an Australian owner. The yacht was designed by Harry Dunning, whose design experience includes Mumm 36s, Volvo Ocean 60s, TP52s and one-off racing maxis. The wide transom and cockpit area makes crew work easy. A twin-wheel configuration was fitted for the test yacht, though the boat can also be purchased with tiller.

This first MC38 was fitted with North Sails, with the main and head sails consisting of that firm's latest product, the 3Di sails. A full report is coming soon from Asia-Pacific Boating.
