Hong Kong is being visited by Vertigo, the 220-foot ketch built by New Zealand’s Alloy Yachts and launched in early 2011. At just over 67 metres, it is one of the largest yachts ever built by Alloy, and certainly one of the biggest yachts to come out of New Zealand. Famous guests aboard Vertigo include Rupert Murdoch and Leonardo De Caprio. The sail area is over 5000 square metres.

Owing to her rig design, which was done to enhance the sail area aloft, Vertigo reportedly reaches up to 20 knots of boat speed in 20 knots of true wind speed on broad reaches up to close reaches. On her engine, she can manage 4000 nautical miles at a respectable 12 knots, with a maximum of 17 knots.

Logistics and service support is being handled by Hong Kong-based Asia Yacht Services. Vertigo is temporarily berthed at the Hong Kong Gold Coast Marina.

With exteriors and naval architecture by Philippe Briand, the interiors were custom designed by Christian Liaigre, one of the world’s most exclusive interior specialists and furniture builders.
