UltraLuxum Yachting has signed on a giant racing trimaran project with McLaren Applied Technologies. The trimaran is expected to be built by McLaren in partnership with Ultraluxum CXL. Mclaren Applied Technologies, associated most closely with the Formula 1 racing team, says it will use its expertise in modelling, design aerodynamics, engineering and telemetry to create a new class of high performance, blue-water sailing yacht. Ultraluxm CXL first unveiled its concept for a high performance, luxury trimaran at the 2011 Monaco Yacht Show.
Its intent is to battle all the records and it will be skipped by an international figure of water racing.
Key to the UltraLuxum trimaran concept is retractable sponsons or outer hulls, which allow the yacht to be berthed in less space than normally required for a multihull.
