Introducing the Merlin 80
Published: Wednesday, 11 July 2012
The first composite yacht by the eponymous new Turkish shipyard, Merlin 80 is a compact, user-friendly vessel designed for families and short-handed use. With a hull shape conceived by Karataş Yacht Design studio, it measures in at under 24 metres, featuring a raised pilothouse for improved visibility, basic crew accommodation and easy-to-use deck hardware driven by a hydraulic/electric system.
Buyers can choose from ketch-rigged or single-masted/cutter-rigged models, containing either three or four cabins below deck. While aluminium is the standard material used for spars, carbon can be substituted upon request for the mast or only the boom. Construction of a Merlin 80 motorsailer will take about 12 months.
