Ocean Marina Pattaya Boat Show ready for second edition
Published: Wednesday, 30 October 2013
The annual Ocean Marina Pattaya Boat Show is set for kick off at Ocean Marina Yacht Club from 22 to 24 November for its second year, with the aim of promoting marine leisure tourism and enticing high end tourists to Thailand's number one beach resort destination, Pattaya.
At a recent press conference in Pattaya, guest of honour Mr. Ronnakij Akasingh, Deputy Mayor of Pattaya City, along with Mrs. Pataraporn Sithivanich, an executive director with the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT), and Ocean Property executives, announced the highlights for this year’s event.
Pattaya is increasingly being referred to as the "Thai Riviera". Catering to tourists from all cultures and walks of life, Pattaya provides a safe, relaxing, fun-filled stay with tropical beaches, world-class hotels, a wide variety of local and international restaurants, as well as shopping centres and markets offering everything from local handicrafts to global luxury labels.
Some nine million tourists visit Pattaya each year, both domestic and international. In line with the TAT's strategy to grow high end tourism in Pattaya, and working closely with the marine tourism sector on Thailand's east coast, the show’s organisers aim to showcase the region as one of Southeast Asia's leading marine tourism hubs.
Mrs. Supatra Angkawinijwong, the deputy-managing director of Ocean Property said, "Pattaya is famous for its beaches, islands and marine tourism, and through this show we aim to promote the region to a global audience. Last year was a success for us but the show will be even bigger this year.
"The Ocean Marina Yacht Club is already the largest marina in Southeast Asia, but we have plans to expand further and with a growing marine infrastructure around Pattaya this helps further promote the region."
Marine tourism is a large revenue generator for Pattaya, attracting high-end international tourists who come to enjoy the stunning marine landscape, charter yachts and use the marine services and marina facilities provided by Ocean Marina Yacht Club.
Yacht owners at Ocean Marina Yacht Club have been predominantly foreigners. However, this demographic has now changed as more and more Thais have adopted a marine leisure lifestyle. Over the past 12 months the number of Thai owners has increased from 20 percent to 38 percent.
An expanded in-water space at the 2013 Ocean Marina Pattaya Boat Show will host a large display of luxury motor and sailing yachts, including models from Princess and Simpson Marine, and also gadgets and water toys for those who already have everything else.
Onshore there will be a diverse display from the marine tourism, leisure and lifestyle and business sectors, from Thailand and overseas. These will include top yachting brands, luxury real estate, super bikes, super cars, marine accessories and more. In total, there will be over 100 exhibitors and 2,600 square metres of exhibition space.
For the expected 3,000 visitors there is a packed program of onshore and on-water activities and entertainment planned, including free sailing trials, free kayak trials, lucky draws, cocktail parties, Dragon Boat races and a marina-side beer garden and festival with live band.
