During a private ceremony recently at the Heesen Yachts shipyard in Oss, the Netherlands, the first 40-metre Heesen ‘sportster’ (YN 15640) was launched and christened M/Y Galatea. She features advanced aluminium hull technology, powerful performance, uncompromising interior design and peerless Dutch construction standards. Galatea may have marble bathrooms, but she’s still capable of 27.5 knots. The upper deck features bespoke teak furniture and a built-in teppanyaki grill.

Frank Laupman of Omega Architects created the interior design based on a theme of Dutch expressionism. Contrasting woods, simple clean lines, marquetry and glass detailing create an atmosphere of calm, contemporary elegance.

Active Interceptor stabilisers and the latest zero-speed Seakeeper gyro stabilisers enhance the comfort and handling.

Galatea will be tested in the North Sea and be delivered to her owners at the end of March.
