Officials at the Port of Galle in Sri Lanka plan to add more yacht berths to the busy and strategic Galle Harbour. News.LK, the official government news portal, said that Galle is the country’s only port with facilities for recreational boats.
The redevelopment of Port of Galle is expected to be a catalyst for economic growth in the southern region of Sri Lanka. Galle harbour is being used as a feeder port to supply essential items to forces providing security to ships against Somali pirates.
The Sri Lanka Ports Authority has requested tenders from companies to build the retaining walls, water-breaks and other infrastructure facilities for the marina. All going well the marina will eventually have more slips, a repair facility, a duty-free shop and a chandlery.
