HW Wood Insurance Brokers announces the opening of its Asian operations in Hong Kong. With well-established offices around the globe – including New York, Seattle, Philadelphia, Bermuda, Athens, Cologne, Hamburg, Madrid, Paris, London and Melbourne – Asia was the one area where more representation was needed. As a result, HWI Hong Kong Limited was established this year. The company was granted its operating license in April and has now started trading.

Initially, the key line of business will be yachts, ranging from small craft to megayachts including crew medical, personal accident, high level liability protection and charter operations. As a group, HWI Hong Kong includes commercial, cargo, fine arts, specie, K&R, aquaculture and other specialist lines.

The Hong Kong office is being headed up by Kevin Overton who has more than 32 years’ experience in the insurance industry, the last 22 working in Asia.

“This is a very exciting opportunity for both me and the group,” says Overton. “The support provided already from the London and New York offices has been great with business already flowing. We are really looking forward to gently expanding the operation over the coming years and with such a strong financial base within the company, I have every confidence this is the start of something special.”
