The 15th Argentario Sailing Week finished on June 22 at Porto Santo Stefano in Tuscany. The event was also the second round of the Mediterranean circuit of the Panerai Classic Yachts Challenge, which was sponsored for the 10th consecutive year by the Florentine luxury sports watchmaker.
Sunny weather and shifty winds between 7 and 12 knots ensured the 45-strong fleet enjoyed a total of three long coastal and windward-leeward races.
The watches provided by Panerai as prizes for the event were won by Mariquita (1911) in the big boats category, the gaff cutter Chinook (1916) in the vintage category, the Marconi cutter Bufeo Blanco (1963) in the classic category, and the gaff sloop Wianno (2011) in the spirit of tradition category.
Other races included the international 12-metre class of America’s Cup participants, in which Vanity V and Vim competed in six races on a separate course. Vim took overall victory in the category.
The Florence-based luxury sports watchmaker Officine Panerai remains the world’s leading organiser of classic yacht events with eleven regattas planned in maritime tradition-rich corners of the globe for the 2014 season.
The link between Panerai and classic sailing has also been further underscored by the creation of the Luminor 1950 Regatta 3 Days Chrono Flyback Titanio, which is designed to calculate race start times simply.
