Camper & Nicholsons Welcome Wooden Sailing Yacht Lamima
Published: Friday, 12 September 2014
Camper & Nicholsons welcomes a very special yacht to the charter fleet – the 65.2m Lamima. Offering the charm of an Indonesian two-masted phinisi with the luxuries of modern yacht design, her build is a nautical masterpiece.
Yacht designer Marcelo Penna finalised his vision for Lamima in 2011, and her build began early in 2012. Boat builders of Ara, Sulawesi, Indonesia, skilfully constructed her – using only traditional techniques throughout the build.
Honouring the ancient boat-building traditions of the Konjo tribe, the keel-laying ceremony included rituals of prayers, ceremonial sweet rice and incense burning, all of which were carried out in front of the whole village. The Konjo tribe also performed a launching ritual to ensure Lamima’s health and prosperity, as in Indonesian tradition boats are believed to have their own life spirit.
Lamima can accommodate 14 guests in seven large staterooms, all of which have en suites. Onboard activities include diving, fishing and yoga. There is a Padi-diving centre and a Padi instructor onboard. The vessel also offers the services of an expert tour guide.
Lamima is now available for charter in Southeast Asia.
