SAP Takes Wind Measurement To Next Level At 2015 Extreme Sailing Series
Published: Friday, 06 February 2015
The 2015 season of the Extreme Sailing Series kicked off on Feb 5 in Singapore. The Singapore races, which run Feb 5-8, are using a new generation of wind sensors on the course.
SAP is deploying wind buoys on each racecourse, extending the quality and volume of data available by measuring the wind at different points on the course leading to more accurate wind field computation.
The leaderboard will also display optimal tracks based on wind and course layout data, enabling sailors to further analyse their strategy and broadcasters to comment on the track teams have chosen – all in real time.
“Having SAP on board as our Official Technology Partner has allowed us to stay at the forefront of innovation in the sailing world,” says Andy Tourell, Project Director, Extreme Sailing Series. “The use of wind buoys, to provide enhanced race data, and the improved live leaderboard will provide our competitors, commentators and media with an enhanced experience, like never seen before.”
The audience will be able to relive the most extreme moments of the series featuring all eight international teams with expert commentary and insights by SAP Sailing Analytics.
