A number of the past year’s top boats were revealed at the 2016 Motor Boat Awards after being tested across eight main categories. The 10th anniversary of the prestigious awards ceremony was held during the London Boat Show (Jan 8-17) at the Rosewood Hotel.
British yacht manufacturer Sunseeker International went home with the award for ‘Best Sportscruiser over 45ft’ for the popular three-cabin Predator 57 model, which was officially launched in January 2015.
On accepting the award, Sunseeker CEO Phil Popham said: “We have seen an extremely positive response to the Predator 57, which became our fastest-selling model to date in 2015 with over 50 retail orders in its first six months. It was built with yacht lovers’ desires and needs in mind to deliver the ultimate cruising experience, and we are delighted to receive this award to recognise its success.”
Ferretti Group’s Custom Line triumphed in the ‘Custom Yacht’ category for the Navetta 28. The latest addition to the semi-displacement range debuted in Hong Kong in October.
“We’re really pleased to begin the year of Custom Line's 20th anniversary with this award that honours one of our most important yachts,” says Ferretti Group Chief Commercial Officer Stefano de Vivo. “This is true not only because the prize was given in Great Britain, home of many of our most important competitors and a country with a great nautical tradition and culture, but also because it is awarded by a jury of professionals who choose the winner after an exhaustive series of sea trials and after taking into account the technical, appearance and innovative features of each yacht.”
The Beneteau Group was a big winner during the night with three yachts under the group’s name taking home awards. Prestige Yachts claimed the prize in the ‘Powerboats over 60ft’ category for the Prestige 680, which was introduced at the World Dealer Meeting in Croatia. The Lagoon 630 was the winner in the ‘Trawler, Aft-Cabin and Catamaran’ category. The 19.5-metre catamaran has encountered huge success in Asia since her first presentation at the Singapore Yacht Show. The Monte Carlo 6, launched at the Düsseldorf Boat Show in early 2015, took home a prize for the ‘Flybridge up to 60ft’ category.
Other winners include the Sealine S330 and C330 in the ‘Sportscruiser up to 45ft’ category, the Axopar 28 in the ‘Performance & Sportsboat’ category, and the English Harbour 29 for the ‘Wheelhouse & Cockpit Cruiser’ class.
An award was also given to boats.co.uk for its outstanding customer service in boat sales and repairs, as well as the ‘Judge’s Special Award’ to Monte Carlo Yachts Chief Executive and Beneteau General Manager Carla Demaria for her outstanding achievement in the yachting industry.
