The event is open to entrants from all of Hong Kong's sailing clubs, and over 80 keelboats are expected to compete in 10 classes. The Spring Regatta will feature three races over two days, with the winners announced immediately after racing at the Sunday evening prize giving ceremony.

The Regatta forms the first part of the 2016 Edmond de Rothschild Regatta Series, which will be completed this coming September with the Edmond de Rothschild Autumn Regatta. The cumulative results of the events will be used to determine an overall series winner in each class.

The start line and courses will be set on the day by the Race Officer Charlie Manzoni, whose selection will be influenced by wind and tidal conditions. On Saturday, the Big Boat class starts the action at 01:50pm, while Race 2 starts at 11:10am on Sunday, with Race 3 to follow as soon as possible.
