The movie premiere of the documentary “The Weekend Sailor” took place at Forum Marinum July 27. The movie, directed by Bernando Arsuaga, is about the unexpected victory of the Mexican Swan 65 Sayula II in the first crewed sailing race around the world in 1974 - The Whitbread Round the World Yacht Race - today the Volvo Ocean Race.
Nautor’s Swan Founder Pekka Koskenkyla and the former Nautor Design Office Manager Lars Ström gave lectures in front of a crowded audience. The presence of the first Swan Owner Heinz Ramm-Schmidt and the first SwanTarantella (36-001), together with the actual Owner of Nautor’s Swan Leonardo Ferragamo, added a great emotional value to the celebration.
The Turku Castle, the largest surviving medieval building in Finland, hosted the Owners’ dinner, while the Crew Party took place at the Turku Yacht Club.
With the parade of sails on July 31, the Aura River was full of Swans. The river banks hosted a great crowd of spectators, and Tarantella sailed together with the new, recently launched model, the Swan 54 Katima.
