Nansha Marina will host the inaugural Guangzhou Nansha International Sailing Regatta in conjunction with the countdown to Volvo Ocean Race 2017/18 Guangzhou Stopover from July 28-30.

The event is organised by People’s Government of Guangzhou Municipality and People’s Government of Nansha District, supported by the Chinese Yachting Association, under the authority of the Asian Sailing Federation (ASAF).

Promoting sailing lifestyle and water sports, the access to the Regatta’s revenue will be free-of-charge.

And in order to boast the Ancient Maritime Silk Route, a total of seven teams representing China, Taipei, Hong Kong, India, Malaysia, Russia and Singapore will join the competition.

The all-female Russian team was invited to join the Regatta by the Organising Committee, in consultation with ASAF, to encourage female sailing.

The three-day regatta will feature a series of races outside Nansha Marina, with teams battling for the Maritime Silk Road Cup.

On July 28, the countdown to Volvo Ocean Race 2017/18 Guangzhou Stopover will officially start. The international large-scale race will start from Alicanta, Spain on October 22 and head to Guangzhou (January 31-February 5) six months later, after stopping in Lisbon, Cape Town, Melbourne and Hong Kong. The race will visit a total of 11 icon cities on six continents and cross four oceans until it reaches the final stopover – The Hague.

In the presence of VOR official representative, the Countdown Tower revelling ceremony will start the countdown for the Guangzhou Stopover.

Meanwhile, the sixth edition of Yacht CN 2017-Extravaganza will also be held from July 28-30, boasting on-land and on-water exhibits including over 50 yachts in the marina basin. There will also be entertainment programme and activities including jet surf performances, professional OP sailor master class and on-water show, water entertainment experience from Decathlon (China) Group, Maritime Culture & VOR Gallery and fashion shows.
