Singapore’s team triumphs at Guangzhou Nansha Regatta

The team of Singapore has taken home the trophy of the inaugural Guangzhou Nansha International Sailing Regatta, held from July 28-30 at Nansha Marina, organised by Guangzhou city government under the authority of Asian Sailing Federation.

The second place went to Russia’s all-female team and Team of India finished the podium, among the seven teams from the above and also China, Hong Kong, Taipei and Malaysia.
The main objective of the event was to promote sailing culture and water sports in the area.
Volvo Ocean Race 2017-18 Guangzhou Stopover Countdown was activated during the Regatta’s opening ceremony. The Clock for this is placed at Volvo Ocean Race Gallery at Nansha Marina for the public visits.
Attendants of the Sailing Regatta Awards Night on July 30 include Cai Chaolin, Guangzhou City Standing Committee & Nansha Development Zone Management Committee Director and Nansha District Secretary; Lui Zhaoyang, Nansha District Vice Mayor; Liao Xiaoming, Guangzhou Sports Bureau Counsel; Timothy Fok, Chairman of Fok Ying Tung Group and International Olympic Committee Member; among others.

Liu stated in his welcoming speech: “Guangzhou Nansha International Sailing Regatta is not just a sporting event – it contains deep cultural meaning. We promote the best maritime traditions and cultures to the locals, opening the area to the world and shaping Guangzhou as an international city.”

Meanwhile, the sixth edition of Yacht CN 2017-Extravaganza from July 28-30 attracts more than 50 yachts for viewing along with entertainment programme and diverse activities.
Eco Cat Walks was also organised to raise awareness on environmental protection and sustainability.
