The award, presented at the National Maritime Museum in Amsterdam, tops a successful year for the British yacht-maker.

Princess reported order books reaching a record-breaking €0.73 billion in retail value following the Cannes Yachting Festival in September.

With production capacity 90 per cent sold through for 2018, the figures represent an 85 per cent year-on-year increase from 2016.

King said, "I am delighted to have received such a prestigious honour. The award is a true testament to the hard work and dedication of each and every employee at Princess and I am honoured to have been recognised amongst some of the most well-respected individuals in boat building."

David King – born in Dundee in 1942 – founded the company in 1965 under the name of Marine Projects, and has been integral in the design and manufacture of all Princess' yachts.
