Published: Thursday, 22 November 2018
It was a night of pride and celebration, with Beneteau boats receiving recognition in both the cruiser and performance boat categories at the China Sailing Awards Ceremony on the occasion of the 12th China Cup International Regatta. Scooping awards in the only two boating categories out of the nine segments with the majority of votes, Beneteau was the biggest winner of the night. The Figaro Beneteau 3 was named as the Performance Keelboat of the Year, while the Oceanis 51.1 won Cruiser of the Year.
The China Sailing Awards were initiated by the organising committee of the China Cup and are supported by World Sailing (WS) and Asia Sailing Federation, to honor the most outstanding personalities and organizations of the year in the sailing world. The 2018 awards ceremony was held on November 9th in Dapeng district.
Dapeng is where the vast metropolis of Shenzhen originated, and has born witness to the rapid development of sailing in China. The city hosts the largest and most influential sailing contest in Asia—The China Cup International Regatta. It is an annual opportunity for high-level international and local sailors to compete in various racing divisions. This year, among a total of 108 competing boats, 24 First 40.7s (which form the most competitive category) battled it out on the waves in Daya Bay with 16 other Beneteau owner boats.
Performance Keelboat of the Year — Figaro Beneteau 3
Designed by world-renowned naval architectural firm VPLP, the Figaro Beneteau 3 (FB3) represents modernity, reliability, and performance. She is the world’s first production foiling monohull, and is equipped with a better performing ballast-free hull, a deeper and more slender keel, a setback mast, and a more extensive and larger sail plan. The FB3 has won praise from the international sailing world, and is also well-recognized by the wider industry. This award takes her total accolades up to six.
Cruiser of the Year — Oceanis 51.1
Launched by Beneteau in 2017, the Oceanis 51.1 is the first model in the 7th generation of the Oceanis range, with taut lines, a new stepped hull, and a chic deck plan. The highlights of the Oceanis 51.1 include innovative architecture, over 700 available combinations for customization, and a First Line version for sailors seeking exceptional performance. What’s more, T&Z Marine, Beneteau and Lagoon’s dealer in Qingdao, was named as the Sailboat Dealer of the Year. T&Z Marine has been an active player in organizing and participating in regattas and sailing events both in China and abroad. The awards Beneteau won at the Sailing Spirit Grand Ceremony once again exemplify Groupe Beneteau and the Shipyard’s long-term commitment to building boats with passion and innovation. In partnership with its local and regional dealers, Beneteau is dedicated to fostering a healthy sailing culture in China and the Asia-Pacific region at large.
