Silent Yachts Debuts New Loft Versions Of Silent 80 Flagship 1

Austrian shipyard Silent Yachts has revealed new “loft” versions of its two Silent 80 flagships, with a raised roof and increased storage capacity.

Keeping a focus on space and light, the yard has raised the cockpit and salon floor of the Silent 80 by 35cm, while raising the roof to maintain the same headroom. This is the new standard design for the classic Silent 80 as well as the Silent 80 Tri-Deck, which has a third level.

The yard, which specialises in solar-powered catamarans of 55, 60 and 80 feet, has been making a big splash in 2020, despite the impacts of the pandemic, with four new yachts sold recently, and eight currently under construction.

“We sold three yachts during the peak of the Covid-19 crisis,” Michael Köhler, founder and CEO of Silent Yachts, said in a recent interview with Asia-Pacific Boating.

The new raised salon floor has the additional benefit of allowing increased storage capacity for water toys under the deck, accessible from both the top (for chairs, ropes and fenders) and from the stern transom (for SUPs, surfboards and other such water toys.)

“We analysed our conversations with clients and how the market tends to develop,” said Köhler in a media statement after the announcement. “We believe that people are looking for more and more adventure in yachting. New versions of the Silent 80 will enable owners to take an amazing number of toys and provide them great extra features like larger windows, flush main deck, new layouts of the main salon and much more.”

The new optional version of the Silent 80 and Tri-Deck has been called the “Loft” version, to reflect the adaptability of the increased space in the main salon afforded by the new layout.

“You can have loose furniture throughout the whole salon and walk in the full length and width 9 x 7 meters without any restriction or steps until the windows,” says Köhler. “You can bring your own sofa, loose chairs around the table of your choice.”

The salon windows become 35 cm higher, which grants improved views that are less obstructed by the bulwark.

“By cancelling the side sofa and the storage boxes between the side walkway and the superstructure, we can get almost full-height glass windows between the salon and the side walkway that will give you a real loft-feeling,” says Köhler. “This feature can be combined with a glass insert in the side wall of the hull to give an unobstructed view of the sea even with the full-height doors.”

For clients who prefer the previous version of the flagship, Silent Yachts now offer clients the choice of the classic version with a regular deck, or the new “loft” version.
